The Santacruz-Chembur Link Road and the Panjarpol-Ghatkopar Link Road are few of the routes that may become operational soon
A week before Mumbaikars go vote for the 2014 general elections, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) may throw open a few important infrastructure projects for the public. These include the Santacruz Chembur Link Road (SCLR), the Panjarpol Ghatkopar Link Road (PGLR) and the southbound tunnel of the Eastern Freeway.
Monorail timings too are being extended till 8 pm. Talks are also on to ensure that the 11.04 km-long Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) Metro Rail line is thrown open to the public in April. The fate of the metro rail of course depends on the project receiving a safety certificate from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS).
The Santacruz-Chembur Link Road will reduce chaos at Sion and Kalanagar junctions
Confirming the same, Metropolitan Commissioner UPS Madan said, "We have set a target to throw open both the links roads as well as the south bound tunnel of the Freeway by the second week of April."
However, Madan made it clear that the roads will be opened to the public without any official inauguration as the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections are in place already.
The MMRDA has already announced that the monorail services would run till 8 pm instead of the current 3 pm, after April 15. "We have not yet decided from when the new timings will be operational, but we will announce that soon," added Madan He added, "There is a possibility that we may even open the metro corridor before the elections.
We are awaiting the CMRS inspection and once we get the safety certificate from CMRS, the line can be thrown open."
