Petrol price crosses Rs 114 in Mumbai

Prices of petrol and diesel were increased by 35 paise again; this is the 21st hike in fuel rates since the start of October this year

Petrol and diesel prices increased for the second consecutive day to touch an all-time high across the country. With a hike of 35 paise a litre, petrol price in Mumbai rose to its highest-ever level of Rs 114.14 per litre. In Delhi, a litre of petrol increased to Rs 108.29. Nakul Sharma, secretary of MP Petrol Pump Owners Association, said fuel prices shot up 21 times since the start of October.

The price of diesel was also hiked by 35 paise, taking its cost in Mumbai to Rs 105.12 per litre, and Rs 97.02 per litre in Delhi on Thursday. The price of petrol rose to Rs 120.4 per litre, while the diesel cost reached Rs 109.5 per litre in Anuppur district in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. Similarly, the price of petrol and diesel registered a hike of 36 paise and 38 paise per litre respectively in Bhopal, said Nakul Sharma, secretary of the MP Petrol Pump Owners Association.

The Centre is in talks with several oil-exporting countries on the issue of supply and demand of oils but there is no possibility of immediate relief in prices. Earlier, a source told ANI that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas recently raised concerns about the matter of pricing, supply and demand of oils to the major oil-producing countries.
