Mumbai: Pereira Wadi mourns its sons who drowned

On Monday evening, three funeral processions simultaneously made their way from different houses in Pereira Wadi, mourning the tragic loss of three boys who drowned at Marve Beach on Sunday.

Ajay Harijan, Nikhil alias Appu Kayampura, and Shubham Jaiswal, close friends living in the same locality and studying in the same school, met a tragic fate together. The entire community was deeply affected, with tears flowing from every person present at the procession. The families were in indescribable mental anguish, bidding their final farewells at the Charkop Hindu cemetery. Nikhil's father, Shaji, rushed back to India upon hearing the news of his only son's death, while his mother, who was in their native village.

The group of five boys, aged between 12 to 16 years and residents of Pereira Wadi, ventured into Marve creek in Malad on Sunday morning, resulting in the drowning of three of them. Two were rescued.

The bodies of the three boys were recovered by the police on Monday morning. The body of Nikhil alias Appu Kayampura was found first, around 7.45 am, buried in the mud near the beach. Ajay Harijan's body was recovered around 9 am, and Shubham Jaiswal's body was found near an electric pole tower, about two hundred meters from the beach, around 11 am.

After an autopsy, the bodies were handed over to their respective relatives for the final rites, an officer from the Malvani police said.
