Apart from the Panvel-Kalamboli rail coach complex, Panvel is also undergoing a mega transformation
Work on the fresh rail terminus of the Panvel-Kalamboli coaching complex, which will be the first one to cater to Navi Mumbai and act as a buffer for Mumbai's growing train traffic, is already 61% complete. The project includes the construction of a terminus at Panvel and a coaching complex facility at Kalamboli, featuring longer 26-coach platforms, maintenance pits, two new lines, additional platforms, new foot overbridges, and an underpass for easy connectivity.
To ensure smooth operations, the Panvel terminus and the Kalamboli coaching complex will be linked with a separate line, with necessary connectivity on both sides to avoid any infringement with existing operational traffic.
Once completed, Panvel will become the first rail terminus in the vicinity of Navi Mumbai, allowing commuters from the area to board several outstation trains at Panvel itself without having to travel to the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST), Dadar, or other city stations.
A senior official stated, "Yes, the work on the '154-crore Panvel-Kalamboli coaching complex is at an advanced stage, with approximately 61% physical progress. This complex, with its new platforms, pit lines, and stabling lines, aims to develop a new terminal for mail express trains and help reduce congestion."

Apart from the Panvel-Kalamboli rail coach complex, Panvel is also undergoing a mega transformation with the dedicated freight corridor lines intersecting the station. Additionally, work on the Karjat-Panvel new suburban corridor is at an advanced stage, which involves building lines to merge suburban rail traffic from the Karjat end to Panvel station.
Work at Panvel includes the progress of two new platforms, the construction of the 3rd/4th line in Kalamboli-Panvel, the extension of the foot overbridge and underpass, and the completion of signalling and mechanical service buildings.
At Kalamboli, the construction of four new pit lines for 26-coach trains is almost complete. Two new stabling lines and one entry/exit line for 26-coach trains are yet to be done. The track foundation formation and minor bridges in Kalamboli-Panvel are complete, and the maintenance shed and new station building are almost finished.
