Opposition INDIA alliance gathers in Mumbai for key meeting ahead of Lok Sabha elections

The Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), a coalition of opposition parties, is convening its third meeting today in Mumbai. A total of 63 representatives from 28 political parties will be present to make important decisions and finalize an action plan to challenge the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

At today's gathering, the opposition alliance is expected to unveil a logo symbolizing their unity. Several senior leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Mamata Banerjee, have already arrived in Mumbai for the meeting.

Notably, JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is also participating, emphasizing the growing momentum of the opposition alliance.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who plays a pivotal role as the host of the meeting, is accompanied by his son Aaditya Thackeray and other prominent leaders from the INDIA alliance.

Ashok Chavan, another former Maharashtra Chief Minister, is among the attendees at the meeting venue.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav, along with his son and current Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, and RJD leader Manoj Jha, are actively participating in the discussions.

Eminent leaders like Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut have also made their presence felt.

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav is another key participant who has arrived in Mumbai for the crucial meeting.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, known for her vocal opposition to the BJP, is at the forefront of the event.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar and NCP MP Supriya Sule are among the notable leaders present.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister's Dr Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah have also arrived in Mumbai to attend the meeting.

This marks the third gathering of the INDIA alliance as they strategize for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

The meeting will discuss election strategies and seat-sharing arrangements in various states. Additionally, a new alliance slogan may be unveiled.

The first meeting of the joint opposition was convened in Patna, Bihar, on June 23, followed by the second meeting in Bengaluru, Karnataka, on July 17-18. This Mumbai meeting underscores the alliance's determination to present a formidable challenge to the BJP in the upcoming elections. (Agencies)
