In an attempt to vaccinate more and more people strategically, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has vaccinated more than 10,000 potential super spreaders. These include workers at hotels, salons, LPG cylinder distributors, auto and taxi drivers and househelps. The special drive was launched on June 25.

With the second wave of Covid-19 receding, corporations across the state are gearing up for a possible third wave. NMMC which has managed both the waves efficiently has already begun preparations to increase bed capacity, store oxygen and make ICU beds available.

"There are two aspects on which we can work to minimise the impact of the third wave: one is creating good infrastructure and second is vaccination. Though supply of the vaccines is low, we have started general vaccination as well as strategic vaccination" said an NMMC official. "From June 25 we started vaccination of ‘potential super spreaders' which includes people who come in contact with several others during their routines," he added.

NMMC spoke to associations of professionals to get their members inoculated, starting with workers at chemist shops, restaurants, hotels, salons and beauty parlours. Then the drive was expanded to workers at petrol pumps, maids, auto and taxi drivers, society watchmen, LPG cylinder distributors and workers at toll booths.
