Navi Mumbai: Robbers loot silver ornaments worth Rs 5 lakh from a jewellery shop

A jewellery shop was looted by unknown thieves on the intervening night of September 18 and September 19 in Navi Mumbai's Kamothe. The thieves broke the wall of neighbouring shop and entered the jewellery store looting silver ornaments and utensils worth Rs 5.85 lakh. The thieves used gas cutters to break the vault. An offence has been registered at Kamothe police station.

Suresh Kumavat (39), a jeweller, opened the shutter of his shop, Laxmi Jeweller, located at Sector 11 on Monday morning around 9 am. As soon as he opened the shop he found an oxygen cylinder, gas cutters, and metal cutters inside the shop. Later, when Kumavat checked, he found silver anklets and utensils weighing 15 kg worth Rs 5.85 lakh missing.

He immediately approached Kamothe police. The police rushed and checked the CCTV to find the suspect. Police also found thieves broke the wall of jeweller's adjoining shop and entered inside. "An offence has been registered against an unknown person under IPC section 380 (theft in dwelling house) 454 (housebreaking) 457 (house breaking at night)," said Smita Jadhav, senior inspector of Kamothe police station.
