A 49-year-old constable was beaten up, and his wife abused, following an incident of road rage after his car hit another on Friday night in Rabale. The constable was returning home after finishing his duty and visiting a temple. Amid heavy rains, the constable couldn't see a carstanding at the side of the road and crashed into it. Three persons have been arrested, while search for two is on.
Prakash Arjun Naikwadi, a constable attached to Vashi police station, was returning home to Ghansoli after visiting a temple on Friday evening around 6 pm. When he was driving home he and reached Sector 10, Ghansoli, a heavy downpour resulted in low visibility. Naikwadi couldn't see a car parked at the side of the road and hit it from behind.
"It was a Creta (having registration numberMH-43-BU-8484). As soon as Naikwadi's car hit the other car, a person got down from the car and approached him. He started abusing Naikwadi and asked him to pay for the damages. Naikwadi told him he will help him get the insurance money. But he didn't listen to him and kept abusing and making calls to others," said an official from Rabale Police station. "Within few minutes, four people came to the spot and started punching Naikwadi."
Meanwhile, Naikwadi also called his wife and narrated the incident, and she arrived at the spot too. While five people were beating Naikwadi, his wife tried to intervene and stop them. She was pushed by the people and threatened. Naikwadi somehow managed to dial 112 from his phone and sought help. A team of Rable cops arrived at the spot within 10 minutes.

Seeing the cops arriving at the spot, out of five, two people ran away from the spot while others were caught by the cops and taken to Rabale Police Station. The nabbed persons identified as Milind Patil, 46, Chetan Patil, 35, Mahesh Kamble, 32, all the residents of Ghansoli. Cops booked the trio and other absconding duo under IPC section 323 (causing voluntarilyhurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) 506 part2 (criminal intimidation) and relevant sections of Riot. Accused were arrested on Friday. Naikwadi sustained bruises and minor injuries.
