Murlidhar Mohol, a Pune MP and Union Minister, slammed NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule on Tuesday for claiming that his position in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet should help Punekars rather than contractors.

Per a PTI report, Mohol, a former corporator and mayor of Pune, has been appointed Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation by the Modi government. On Monday, Baramati MP Sule welcomed him but stated that his new position should serve the people of Pune rather than contractors.

"We are happy that Pune got a ministerial berth, but its use should benefit Punekars rather than contractors," Supriya Sule had told the reporters, per the PTI report.

Reportedly, in response to Supriya Sule's remarks, Mohol wrote on the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), "Tai (Sule), I understand your displeasure. For someone from an ordinary household like me to become a minister is difficult to accept, especially for someone like you who was born with a golden spoon."

"After almost 40 years, the MP from Pune, who was elected by the people, got a chance to become a minister. This matter is a matter of pride for all the Punekarrs and if we look at the political culture of Pune, it is expected to be welcomed with a pure heart," he wrote and further stated that everyone in Maharashtra knows who helped contractors succeed and who works with major contractors from Pune and Maharashtra.

"Who fed the contractor? Who raised? Who are the big contractors in Pune and Maharashtra? Maharashtra knows this. You will only end up as a laughing stock by making such comments," he added.
