Mumbai’s TPR sees minor drop; daily deaths rise to 6

After seeing a constant rise in the test positivity rate (TPR) for the past few weeks, Mumbai witnessed a marginal drop in the figure on Friday. The city reported a TPR of 28.9 per cent after 72,442 tests were conducted on Friday, down from 29.9 per cent on Thursday.

The daily cases rose, but marginally, to 20,971 from 20,181 the day before, while deaths increased to six. On Thursday, the city had seen a jump of 5,015 cases.

While the experts predict the daily numbers to rise further, the silver lining is that about 84 per cent of new patients are asymptomatic.

Among the six deaths confirmed on Friday, five patients had comorbidities, according to the BMC's report. While one patient was in the age group of 40-59 years, the rest were senior citizens. At 1,395, there was a marginal rise in hospitalisations on Friday, shows the civic body's data. The city's recovery rate continued to fall on Friday and was at 87 per cent, with 8,490 patients being discharged. The doubling rate continued to dip and was at 56 days.

20 deaths in state

The state health department reported 40,925 cases on Friday, and also registered a marginal rise in the number of deaths, at 20. The state's case fatality rate dipped to 2.07 per cent, and 14,256 people were discharged. The state had 1,41,492 active cases as of Friday.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) registered 33,235 infections, with the Thane Municipal Corporation and Navi Mumbai reporting 2,612 and 2,664 cases, respectively. Panvel reported 1,423 cases, Vasai-Virar 1,137 and Thane city 787. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, saw one death, in Raigad.

No new Omicron cases were reported in the state on Friday.
