After seeing a rise in the test positivity rate (TPR) for the past few days, Mumbai saw the figure decline significantly to 0.80 per cent on Wednesday from 0.93 per cent on Tuesday. Officials attributed the drop to an increased number of Covid-19 tests. Among the 42,723 samples tested across the city, 343 were found to be Coronavirus-positive.
In the past 24 hours, the number of Covid-19 fatalities in the city rose to four from one. According to the BMC's report, three of the four deceased patients had comorbidities, three were senior citizens and one was in the age group of 45-60 years.
The doubling rate of infections in the city continued to deteriorate and was recorded at 1,884 days on Wednesday. The recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, after 272 more people were discharged.
The state-wide figures also rose significantly on Wednesday, with 5,031 new cases and 216 deaths. On Tuesday, Maharashtra had registered 4,355 infections and 119 fatalities.

The state's case fatality rate, which remained constant at 2.11 per cent for a while, went up to 2.12 per cent. The state had 50,183 active cases on Wednesday after 4,380 people recovered and went back home discharged.
The number of daily cases and deaths rose in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) as well. According to the state health department report, the region confirmed 777 cases, including the ones from Mumbai.
Apart from Mumbai, Raigad reported the maximum number of cases in the MMR at 107, followed by Kalyan-Dombivli at 64. Panvel recorded 55 cases, Thane 37, Navi Mumbai 57 and Vasai-Virar 34.
The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 29 Covid-19 fatalities on Wednesday. Raigad registered the highest number of deaths in the MMR at 19, Panvel saw four, Thane three and Palghar, Navi Mumbai and Kalyan-Dombivli one each.
