Mumbai's test positivity rate (TPR) and daily cases saw a significant jump for the fourth consecutive day on Friday. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city saw 683 new cases and the TPR was 1.68 per cent. The city registered the death of a person above 60 years who had comorbidities.
The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 267 people recovered and were discharged on Friday. The doubling rate of the city continued to see a drop and was 1,536 days on Friday. The state saw a drop in new cases and Covid-19 fatalities. As per the state health department report, 1,410 cases were reported with 12 deaths.
The state's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 868 recovered and got discharged on Friday. Currently the state has 8,426 active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) too saw a significant rise in new cases. As per the state report, 962 cases were reported in the MMR including cases from Mumbai.

Apart from Mumbai, Navi Mumbai reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR with 75 new cases. It was followed by 54 cases in Thane Municipal Corporation. While Panvel saw 34 cases, Vasai-Virar reported 30 cases each, Raigad saw 15 cases and Kalyan-Dombivli reported 17 cases. MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered three deaths, one each in Panvel, Thane and Vasai-Virar.
The state reported 20 new cases of the Omicron variant on Friday. With this, the state's total Omicron variant patients are 108. Out of these, 54 cases have been discharged following a negative RT PCR test. Out of the 20, 15 have history of international travel, one of domestic travel, and four patients are their high-risk contacts. At least 12 patients have been completely vaccinated, 7 are unvaccinated and one patient is not eligible for vaccination. All the patients are asymptomatic.
At least 11 of the 20 patients tested positive during surveillance at Mumbai airport. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, 5 of them are Mumbai residents. So far 23 Mumbai residents, who had international travel history, have tested positive for Omicron. Barring the kids under 18 years, all patients are vaccinated. All patients are either asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic.
