Mumbaikars get soaked to the bone as rain lashes city on Saturday

The island city recorded 35.9 mm rainfall while the eastern suburbs saw 30.9 mm of rain. The Western suburbs saw relatively low 11.13 mm rainfall. Heavy rainfall with lightning was experienced in all parts of the city and areas like Hindmata, Bandra and Parel were waterlogged.

The showers that began at 6 pm turned into a downpour by 7 pm. Even Thane, Kalyan and Dombivali saw heavy rains. According to information available with the BMC, rainfall between 8 am and 8 pm on Saturday was 35.9 mm in the city, 30.9 mm in the eastern suburbs and 11.13 mm in the Western suburbs.

Maximum rainfall was seen in Mumbai Central near Nair hospital (75 mm). The maximum rainfall in the Eastern suburbs was experienced in Kurla (69 mm). Bandra recorded 56 mm of rain. "The city will continue to see rain and thunder showers for the next 48 hours, especially in the evenings. Temperatures will stay between 24 degrees and 32 degrees," said an IMD official.
