A 21-year-old woman, unable to conceive even after three years of marriage, resorted to desperate measures. She kidnapped a 20-day-old child from Shatabdi Hospital, where the infant's mother had brought him for medical treatment. Fearing detection, the accused woman took the child to Vanrai police station and concocted a false story, claiming she had found the child abandoned on a footpath. She handed over the infant to the police before swiftly making her escape.
A comprehensive investigation by the Kandivli police revealed that the woman who abducted the child and the one who reported finding the child were, in fact, the same person. Subsequently, a search was launched, leading to her arrest from Kandivli East.
According to police sources, the Kandivli police arrested the woman for kidnapping the 20-day-old boy from his mother at Shatabdi Hospital on Thursday. The complainant, a Virar resident, reported that a burqa-clad woman approached her at the hospital, engaging in small talk and expressing concern. The woman then suggested that there was dirt on her face and encouraged her to wash up in the bathroom at the end of the corridor. Trustingly, the complainant handed her child to the woman. However, upon returning from the bathroom, she discovered both her child and the woman were missing. The complainant immediately approached the Kandivli police and filed a case.
Under the guidance of DCP Ajaykumar Bansal and senior Police Inspector Sandeep Vishwasrao, API Hemant Geete and his detection team began the investigation. Given the challenge of identifying the suspect, who was wearing a burqa, and the child wrapped in a red blanket, the team meticulously reviewed CCTV footage from the area.

"We scanned through the CCTVs of the area and found her taking rickshaw towards Malvani. We went through recordings from 100 to 150 cameras," stated an officer from the Kandivli police station. The footage showed the woman traveling to Malvani and subsequently towards Goregaon East in another auto-rickshaw.
Later that evening, information reached the Kandivli police that Vanrai police had found a child. The woman there claimed to have discovered the baby abandoned on a road. However, after further interrogation, the 21-year-old woman admitted to kidnapping the child due to her inability to conceive after three years of marriage, enduring constant taunts from relatives. The woman has been arrested and remanded in police custody.
