Mumbai: Woman leaves behind bag containing Rs 1.5 lakh in auto, police finds it

Interestingly, neither the auto driver nor the auto owner was aware that someone had forgotten a bag full of cash in their auto.

The Bangur Nagar police have brought back the smile on the face of an 80-year-old woman who had left behind a bag containing her life's saving in an auto-rickshaw.

Within 11 hours, the police traced the auto and returned the bag to the Goregaon resident.

According to police sources, the photograph of the late actor Irfan Khan was printed on the rear part of the auto-rickshaw which helped the police identify the auto easily. While the police officials had got the auto number from the CCTV footage but were unable to find the address of the owner who resided in the huge slum of Ambuj Wadi in Malvani.

But the photo of the late actor helped the police trace the auto.

Interestingly, neither the auto driver nor the auto owner was aware that someone had forgotten a bag full of cash in their auto.

The complainant, Shantideva Pandey, a resident of Motilal Nagar Goregaon West was going to her daughter's house. She unboarded near Mind Space, Malad West, and forgot the bag which had clothes and Rs.1, 55,000 cash.

"We explored all the routes where the auto plied. From Behram Baugh, Jogeshwari, later, Goregaon and Malad, including the parking places. After checking many CCTV footages, we got the clear image of the auto number which had a photo of late actor Irrfan Khan on the rear side. We got the address details from the RTO," said an officer.

"The bag was intact and nothing was missing from it. On Monday, our official went to the complaint house and returned the bag and cash," he added.
