A 45-year-old woman recently found out that she was duped by a fake Godman to the tune of Rs 37 lakh on the pretext of performing virtual havans as a remedy to her problems.

She was dealing with unemployment, family discord and her mother's illness.

According to the MHB Colony police, the woman who lived with her elderly parents gave the Godman Rs 37 lakh over a period of four years to perform online prayers for her.

The incident came to light on November 27 when the woman reached Ayodhya and found out that there was no such Godman living there.

Officials said that the woman saw a TV advertisement on November 2018 where a Godman claimed that he could perform havans online and solve any problem. The woman contacted the Godman and sought the services.

After losing money, over a period of four years and not getting a job, in November 2021, the woman decided to visit the Godman in Ayodhya.

On reaching Ayodhya the woman found out that she had been duped by a fake Godman.

On returning to Borivli the woman approached the MHB Police and registered a complaint.

"We are now on the lookout for an unidentified man and scanning all the online websites and phone numbers that he has given in his advertisement," said a police officer from MHB Police station.
