A 68-year-old woman from Sion Koliwada approached the Bombay High Court after she and her daughter were arrested by Pune's Bhosari police under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The woman, who has been charged for being in possession of 320 grams of brown sugar (poor quality heroin) has sought the constitution of a special team to investigate the "false" allegations against her.

In her plea before the HC, the woman contended that while the police allow notorious drug suppliers to operate, people like her are harassed, and are not given a hearing. The Bombay HC has asked the state to respond to the petition, reports Hindustan Times.

The woman's advocate Anand Jondhale told the division bench of justice SS Shinde and justice Manish Pitale that his petitioner is a senior citizen residing and operating a small tobacco shop at Sion Koliwada.

In her petition, the woman claimed that her daughter, who was also taken into custody when she was picked up, was let off the next day after she paid a large sum to the police team in order to not be implicated in the case.

The petitioner has also sought an investigation into the alleged crime by a special investigation team (SIT) of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers so that the facts of the case are unearthed and submitted before the court.

After the state informed the court that the petition had not been served to them, the HC directed the woman's advocate to serve the same with tangible proof of service. The petition is expected to come up for hearing in due course.
