A newborn was found abandoned inside a toilet at a five-star hotel in Worli on Monday. The police said that the child's mother had come to the St Regis under the pretext of checking out a hall for her company event and dumped the baby wrapped in tissue inside a washroom, marked for the disabled. NM Joshi Marg police have filed a case and are searching for the 41-year-old woman.
The incident took place on May 30 morning at St Regis hotel when a housekeeping staff who was in charge of cleaning the women's washrooms heard a baby crying from a toilet marked for the disabled. She found a newborn, soaked with blood, wrapped in tissue paper upon opening the door.
"The cleaner alerted hotel authorities who immediately informed the NM Joshi Marg police. Cops rushed the baby to BYL Nair Hospital where the baby is kept in neonatal intensive care unit," said a senior police officer.

Meanwhile, cops found CCTV footage where the woman was seen walking towards the washroom. The woman was identified as a resident of Goregaon, based on the details and ID card that she had shared at the hotel reception desk.
A hotel staff told the police that the woman had come to check out the venue for an alleged event of her company. A team of cops was despatched to Goregaon, but could not trace the woman.
"We are trying to locate the woman. An offence has been registered under section 317 (exposure and abandonment of child under 12 years)," said Dnyaneshwar Chavhan, additional commissioner, Central Region.
