Mumbai weather update: Possibility of heavy rainfall in the city

The weather forecast for Mumbai today, July 22, as of 0800hrs, indicates heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs, with a possibility of very heavy rainfall at isolated locations, according to BMC. Citizens are advised to exercise caution and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during inclement weather.

The sea level is expected to rise to 4.14 meters above the mean sea level on July 22 at 1458hrs. The next high tide is expected on the following day, July 23, 2023, at 0251hrs (2:51 AM), with the sea level reaching 3.58 meters.

At 2056hrs (8:56 PM), the sea level is expected to reach its lowest point of 1.57 meters. The next low tide is predicted for the next day, July 23, 2023, at 0817hrs (8:17 AM), with the sea level reaching 1.48 meters.

Average Rainfall Details from July 21, 2023, 0800hrs, to July 22, 2023, 0800hrs:

In the City, the average rainfall was 82.89mm. In the Eastern Suburbs, the average rainfall was 148.40mm. In the Western Suburbs, the average rainfall was 122.30mm.

These rainfall amounts indicate that there was substantial precipitation during the specified time period. Heavy rainfall can lead to waterlogging, flooding, and other related issues in urban areas, so residents and commuters are advised to be cautious and prepared during such weather conditions.

Mumbai and its suburbs received heavy rainfall on Friday, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas and disruption of vehicular traffic in the city. Several areas in Mumbai, including Andheri, Kurla, Ghatkopar and Chembur, witnessed waterlogging due to the heavy spells of rains. The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Ltd had to divert buses on more than 12 routes due to waterlogging in Sion. Furthermore, motorists and pedestrians faced inconvenience as the Andheri subway was closed for traffic due to waterlogging.

Despite the heavy rains, railway authorities reported that trains on the Western, Central, and Harbour lines were running normally. However, commuters complained of slight delays in services, with trains running up to 10 to 15 minutes behind schedule.

Meanwhile, while several areas in the Thane district experienced heavy rainfall and waterlogging issues in the last two days, there has been insufficient rain in the catchment area. BMC officials remain optimistic about upcoming rainfall and hope for improvement in water levels.
