Living up to the yellow alert given by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Mumbai and surrounding districts, Wednesday looked just like a day from the Monsoon season. In the last 24 hours, Mumbai's Santacruz and Colaba observatories have recorded rainfall of 0.6- and 1.2-mm respectively and the rain is expected to continue throughout the day.

The yellow alert was issued by IMD because of a low-pressure area formation over east central Arabian Sea off Maharashtra coast. The rainfall is likely to continue on Thursday too as per the IMD Forecast.

The IMD stated, "It was forecasted that the low-pressure area formation system will very likely interact with an approaching western disturbance. Under the influence of these weather systems, a wet spell was expected over parts of Maharashtra during from November 30 to December 22, 2021 with reduction thereafter."

Even as the rain is to continue on December 2, there is no heavy rain warning like it has been given for today. The yellow warning for Wednesday indicated thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/gutsy winds and heavy rain very likely at isolated places.
