Putting an end to all the confusion over exams, the Mumbai University (MU) on Wednesday issued a circular, which mentions that final year and college-level exams will be held online and the format of the question papers will be multiple-choice questions (MCQ) for traditional Arts, Commerce and Science courses, while for the professional courses, it will be a mix of descriptive ones and MCQs.
The circular brings clarity for lakhs of students from affiliated colleges. As per the circular, final year exams will be held in May based on the college cluster model, wherein the lead college will take the responsibility of organising the exams in consultation with other colleges. The college-level exams would have to be completed by April.
As the examinations for professional courses, such as law, architecture and others, will have a combination of MCQ and descriptive questions, students will get more options.
50 MCQs for 50 marks
"Whereas for traditional courses, students will not get many choices. In winter sessions, for traditional courses students were given 50 MCQs, out of which they had to answer 40 for 60 marks, but now they will have to answer 50 MCQs for 50 marks," said a university official.

"Assessments based on practical, projects and viva should also be done through an online format where Zoom and Google Meet can be used. These internal assessments should be completed in April.
Students should be provided with question banks for oral as well as written assessments," states the circular, which also asks colleges to collect students' data such as mobile number, details of the smart devices they will use for the exams among others.
