Two police officers were assaulted in separate incidents in the city on Monday. In the first incident, a cop was hit by bikers who were violating traffic rules while in the other, a history-sheeter manhandled an officer at Bandra police station.
According to the Mumbai police, the first incident occurred in the area under the jurisdiction of the Worli police around 12.30 pm. "The victim, Constable Sagar Makwana, 28, received five stitches on his head after being assaulted by the bikers," said a police officer. As per the complaint, the accused were riding a motorcycle triple-seat. When Makwana tried to stop them, they hit him in a bid to escape and he fell down.
The officer later detained the trio and registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), against them. However, as it was learnt that all of them were minors, their parents were summoned and they were let off with a warning. The second incident took place at 10.30 pm at Bandra police station where Arif Shaikh alias Michele had been brought.
