The Mumbai Traffic Police Control Room received a bomb threat on Friday morning. The control room received the text message from an unknown person claiming that "bombs have been placed at six locations across Mumbai", news agency ANI reported.

The traffic control room at Worli received a message around 12.30 am on Friday, claiming that there would be blasts in Mumbai as bombs had been placed at six locations in the country's financial capital, reported PTI.

The Mumbai police has initiated a probe to trace the sender of the message while security agencies have been asked to be on alert.

"Mumbai police and other agencies are alert after the bomb threat message. Efforts are underway to trace the message sender," Mumbai Police said, reported ANI.

A case has been registered under Indian Penal Code section 505 (2), which pertains to statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes, an official told PTI.

In January, several museums in Mumbai, including the renowned Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum, have reported receiving threatening emails warning of potential bomb blasts, officials confirmed.

According to the report in ANI, the officials said that the threatening messages were sent to Colaba's Shivaji Maharaj Museum and the Nehru Science Centre in Worli.

The report further stated that following receipt of these emails, the police and bomb disposal unit conducted an extensive investigation at the aforementioned museums.

No evidence of explosives was located throughout the search, the officials told news agency ANI. Reportedly, an inquiry into the matter is currently underway. Additional information will be released as the probe proceeds, the officials said.

Last year in December, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in Mumbai received a bomb threat email. The officials of RBI have reported the matter to the Mumbai Police which registered an FIR and have began investigations in the matter.

According to sources, the email which was sent to an official email address was first noticed by a security official at RBI. He later informed the senior officials about the matter. The security official then informed the police about the matter which registered an FIR.

The email said that as many as 11 bombs were been planted at 11 locations in Mumbai including RBI offices and different banks.
