The new year is likely to start with a few cold days, meteorologists have predicted, with minimum temperature dropping to 15-16 degrees Celsius post New Year's Eve. "Saturday (December 31) and Sunday (January 1) will have a cool breeze through the day, with maximum temperature hovering around 29-30 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 15-16 degrees Celsius," said Rajesh Kapadia of popular private weather blog Vagaries of Weather.

Mumbai Weather, a popular Twitter handle, also predicted cooler days in the new year. A post read, "Mumbai's min temp likely to drop to 16°C on New Year's morning. The first couple of days of the new year will have pleasant weather. [sic]"
On Friday, India Meteorological Department's Santacruz observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 18.2 degrees Celsius, while the Colaba observatory recorded 21 degrees Celsius. Mumbai's air quality showed slight improvement but still remained in the poor category.
