A 19-year-old lost her life on Tuesday morning while taking a selfie with her brother who was on his way to a school picnic. The police said the girl was standing close to the bus window while her brother was peeping out of it. As the bus moved out of the school's gate, the girl's head got trapped between the walls holding the gate and the bus. She sustained severe head injuries and was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Siddhi Phutane - a college student residing in Virar West - had just dropped off her brother Om, 10, at the Narshin Govind Vartak school (NGV) in Virar West, where he studies. The school had organised a picnic at Kidzania in Ghatkopar. The incident took place around 7.30 am, while she was taking selfies and creating videos with him.

"Siddhi was shooting a video saying goodbye to her brother and explaining that he was going for a picnic at Kidzania in a bus. Meanwhile, the bus driver started the bus and took a left turn while exiting the school premises. Siddhi was on the right side of the bus and as it exited the premises, the back portion collided with her, crushing her head between the vehicle and the gate wall," a police officer said.

She was rushed to Sanjivani Hospital in Virar, where she was declared dead upon arrival. Meanwhile, the school cancelled the picnic following the incident. A police officer said, "We have registered an FIR against the bus driver and have launched an investigation."
