The Pydhonie police have arrested a minor for repeatedly raping a 15-year-old mentally unstable girl over the course of several months. Survivor is four-months pregnant
The Pydhonie police have arrested a minor for repeatedly raping a 15-year-old mentally unstable girl over the course of several months. She put up no resistance because she couldn't comprehend she was being subjected to a sexual crime, cops said.
The survivor's parents learnt of the exploitation a few days ago when she complained of stomach ache and was rushed to a hospital where it was revealed that she was pregnant, they said.
According to police officials, the accused, who is 17, is a school dropout and a distant relative of the girl. Both reside in the same neighbourhood within the jurisdiction of Pydhonie police station near Masjid Bunder.
Assistant Police Inspector Balasaheb Kannawade of Pydhonie police said, "The victim stayed alone through the daytime as both her parents go to work. The accused was a frequent visitor at her residence.
Six months ago, he sensed a chance to exploit the situation when he was alone with her at her house, and raped her." Cops claim that the accused kept taking advantage of her uncomprehending mental faculties and continued to exploit her.
"She didn't even realise what the accused was up to, so she never stopped him from doing anything. She was under the impression that he took good care of her, because of which he was never suspected," added Kannawade.
A fortnight ago, the girl's mother decided to send her to her aunt's place in Chembur, where she complained of severe stomach ache and started vomiting. Kannawade said, "Her aunt admitted her to a nearby hospital where she learnt that the 15-year-old was four-months pregnant.
She informed her parents and a case was registered with the police on Tuesday." The complainant's statement was recorded with the help of a mediator, and the accused was identified.
A team was dispatched and the accused was nabbed from his residence on Wednesday. Since his arrest, the accused has admitted to raping her more than 13 times. He has been booked under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code along with relevant sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012.
