At 13.2 degrees Celsius, Mumbai recorded its coldest day of the season on Monday. The temperature has been dropping since sudden rain lashed the city on Saturday, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD)-Mumbai data.

January in Mumbai has seen the lowest minimum temperature going lower than 13.2 degrees Celsius in the past. In 2013, the city recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 10.4 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the past decade.

In 2020, it was 11.4 degrees Celsius. "But these past records are from the entire month of January in those years. We still have over half a month left, and the city is likely to see a further drop in temperature. This trend will continue till the middle of this week, after which there will be a gradual increase in the temperature," said a scientist from IMD-Mumbai.

The city experienced untimely drizzles on Saturday due to Active Western disturbances.

Since then, as per the IMD forecast, the weather is getting colder every passing day. Not only the minimum temperature, but the maximum temperature have also dropped.
