Mohammed Ali Khan was murdered by his inmates
A prisoner convicted in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts, Mohammed Ali Khan, also known as Manojkumar Bhanvarlal Gupta or Munna, aged 60, was killed in Kolhapur jail, on Sunday morning. Authorities stated that he was assaulted by five inmates who are currently under trial under the strict Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). These suspects have been incarcerated for approximately 10-11 months and were situated in the same barrack as Khan.
The individuals accused of assaulting Khan have been identified as Saurabh V. Siddha, Suresh Patil, Sandip, alias Bablu Shankar Chavan, Deepak Netaji Khot, and Ruturaj Inamdar. Authorities confirmed that all of them have been charged with murder by the Juna Rajwada Police Station. According to officials, the altercation between Khan and the five accused originated from a dispute over the use of the bathroom earlier in the morning in barrack circle number 02.
"The prisoners argued with each other over some issues, and the 1993 blast convict Munna Gupta alias, Mohammed Ali Khan, was murdered by the other group of prisoners, who repeatedly hit him on the head with a manhole cover," said Swati Sathe, DIG Prisons.
She added, "The constable present inside the prison was pushed by the accused. Prima facie, it appears that Khan died due to a severe head injury. A post-mortem is being conducted to ascertain the exact cause of death. Khan was sentenced to life in the deadly 1993 serial blast case, in which 257 people died and over a thousand were injured.
