After seeing a gradual rise in the test positivity rate (TPR) over the last couple of days, the city witnessed a significant dip on Sunday at 0.78 per cent. Mumbai also saw a marginal drop in new Covid-19 cases and fatalities. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, the city reported 345 fresh cases and two deaths on Sunday.
For the first time in the second wave, Mumbai's TPR dipped below 1 per cent on July 29. On August 19, the city recorded the second wave's lowest TPR at 0.53 per cent after which the graph has been gradually moving upwards.
It was on August 16 that the number of daily cases fell below 200. The city reported the highest number of cases - 11,163 - on April 4 and then the decline started. There has been a steady fall in the TPR after May 5.

Both the patients who succumbed to the viral infection had comorbidities and were above 60 years of age. The doubling rate continued to decrease and was 1,611 days on Sunday. The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 280 people were discharged after full recovery.
The state's Covid-19 cases saw a marginal dip on Sunday, as the number dropped below 5,000. As per the state health department report, 4,661 cases were reported. Maharashtra reported 131 deaths due to the viral infection on Sunday.
The state's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 3,510 people were discharged after full recovery on Sunday. The state has 52,844 active cases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a marginal dip in numbers too. As per the state report, 845 cases were reported in the MMR region, including those from Mumbai.
Apart from Mumbai, Raigad reported 113 cases and Navi Mumbai 87. Panvel recorded 80 cases while Thane saw 40 cases. Kalyan-Dombivili saw 87 cases and Vasai-Virar reported 33 new cases on Sunday. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered nine Covid-19 fatalities on Sunday. Kalyan-Dombivili saw six deaths, highest in the MMR, while Navi Mumbai reported three deaths.
