Mumbai’s test positivity rate and new Covid-19 cases see a rise

The city’s fatalities stay constant, but the state’s increase even as its new cases fall

After registering the lowest test positivity rate (TPR) in the second wave on Thursday, Mumbai saw it rise to 1.53 per cent on Friday. On Thursday, the TPR was 1.42 per cent. The daily new cases also saw a rise in the city. As per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) report, 600 new COVID-19 cases were reported across the city while the fatalities remained constant at 13.

The doubling rate improved and was 892 days on Friday. Of the 13 deaths, 10 patients had comorbidities, 10 deaths were in the age group over 60 while 3 deaths were reported in the 40-60 age group. On June 8 and July 7, the city had reported single digit COVID-19 fatalities in the second wave.

The city's recovery rate remained constant at 96 per cent as 566 people recovered and were discharged on Friday.

The state's new COVID-19 cases saw a marginal drop as 8,992 cases were reported on Friday. The COVID-19 fatalities in the state saw a significant rise as 200 deaths were reported. The state's case fatality rate was at 2.03 percent. At least 10,458 people recovered and got discharged on Friday. Currently the state has 1.12 lakh active cases.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) saw a marginal drop in new cases. The MMR reported 1,863 cases on Friday, including the ones in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Panvel with 123 and Raigad with 412 reported the maximum new cases in MMR.

Thane reported 102 new cases while Navi Mumbai saw 122 cases and Vasai-Virar reported 107 new cases each on Friday. MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 27 COVID-19 fatalities on Friday. Raigad reported 17 deaths, highest in MMR. Vasai-Virar reported 5 deaths and Thane saw 2 deaths.
