Mumbai’s new Covid-19 cases inch towards 500-mark

State sees a marginal dip in cases, records 4,057 new infections

After recording daily COVID-19 cases below 400 for almost two months, the city is once again inching towards the 500 mark with the infections gradually rising. As per a BMC report, Mumbai saw 416 cases on Sunday. While the number of deaths due to the infection dipped to two, the test positivity rate (TPR) saw a marginal rise at 1.15 per cent.

Mumbai's TPR dipped below 1 per cent for the first time in the second wave on July 29. On August 19, the city recorded the second wave's lowest TPR at 0.53 per cent, after which it started increasing.

Of the two deaths reported in the city on Sunday, one had comorbidities, one was below 40 years of age and the other above 60 years. Meanwhile, the city's doubling rate continued to decrease and was 1,363 days on Sunday. The city's recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent as 237 people were discharged after full recovery.

The state's COVID-19 cases saw a marginal drop on Sunday, but it remained above 4,000. As per the state health department report, 4,057 cases were reported. The state, however, saw a marginal increase in the number of deaths and recorded 67.

Maharashtra's case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent as 5,916 people were discharged after full recovery on Sunday. Currently, the state has 50,095 active cases.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) recorded a slight increase in the number of cases on Sunday.

As per the state report, 985 cases were reported in the MMR, including those from Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Raigad recorded 102 cases - second highest in the MMR. Apart from this, Navi Mumbai recorded 69 cases followed by Panvel Municipal Corporation and Thane Municipal Corporation recording 66 each and Kalyan-Dombivili with 61 and Vasai-Virar 45 cases. The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered three COVID fatalities. While Navi Mumbai recorded two deaths, Panvel recorded one.
