A local train heading for Borivli uncoupled between the third coach and the rest of the train at Marine Lines station on Sunday morning. The third coach had got detached from the rest of the train at 11.02 am at Marine Lines station. There were no injuries, and the train was promptly evacuated, according to official sources.
The train commenced its journey from Churchgate station at 10.57 am, en route to Borivli as a slow local. Sumit Thakur, the chief public relations officer for Western Railway, said, "The third coach from the rear end of the suburban local got uncoupled while entering Marine Lines station at 11.02 am. The train had departed from Churchgate at 10.57 hours for Borivli. Passengers were disembarked, and the local train was moved to the carshed. Down-slow locals were temporarily rerouted to the down-fast line. The affected coach was coupled and departed for the carshed at 1.11 pm. The affected line has now been restored and is operating normally."
WR initiated a series of pre-planned blocks to commission a new rail line this weekend, adding approximately 9 km of track to the congested Mumbai rail network. Mumbaikars should be prepared for a series of train and platform cancellations from this weekend until November 5. Sumit Thakur, Western Railway's chief public relations officer, said, "The construction of the new sixth line between Khar and Goregaon, spanning 8.8 km, began on October 7, 2023, and is progressing rapidly.."

"To execute the construction of the sixth line between Khar and Goregaon, a 29-day block is scheduled over the Mumbai suburban section of WR. Despite the substantial workload, the block work has been meticulously planned to minimise disruption to rail traffic and passenger inconvenience. Notably, during the initial 10-13 days, there will be no train cancellations," he explained.
He continued, "Train cancellations will only begin on October 20, 2023, affecting around 2,700 suburban services and approximately 400 partial cancellations or short terminations. Long-distance trains will also be impacted, with an estimated 60 cancellations and around 200 partial cancellations. As part of this work, Andheri platform No. 9 will be suspended from October 19/20 until the work's completion. On the last day of work, a 24-hour mega block will take place from 9 pm on Saturday to 9 pm on Sunday, November 4/5, 2023, at Bandra Terminus."
