Mumbai: Retired ACP commits suicide in Matunga

A 70-year-old retired assistant commissioner of police committed suicide by jumping off his building on Monday evening. The ex-officer identified as Pradeep Temkar, was living with his family in Matunga. On Monday evening, he left his home and went to the refuge area of the building and jumped off. According to preliminary information, Temkar was battling depression and was currently under treatment.

On Monday, around 5.15pm housekeeping staff at the Ganga Heritage on Deodhar Road, Matunga East heard a loud thud. When they rushed towards the sound they found a man on the floor. The security guard identified the person as Pradeep Temkar, a resident of the seventh floor. He rushed to the flat and informed Temkar's wife about the incident.

The wife took him to Sion hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. "According to the family, Temkar was battling depression and undergoing treatment for the same for the last few years. His family didn't have any complaints of foul play," said an officer from Matunga police station.

Temkar retired as an assistant police commissioner from the traffic department in 2014. After retirement he lived with his wife at their Matunga residence. "We have filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and are taking statements of eyewitnesses and family members. Prima facie, there appears to be no foul play" said Deepak Chavan, senior inspector, Matunga police station.
