Monsoon continues to wreak havoc in the city as two cave-in incidents occurred at BMC's L ward area on Friday. Firstly, the retaining wall of the Covid-19 quarantine and isolation facility at Powai collapsed and the open space in the premise too sunk in. Also, the approach road of a bridge on the Saki Vihar road connecting to Marvah road in Andheri (East) also caved in and the bridge was shut for vehicular movement.
No casualties or injuries were reported in both incidents.

"One of the training centres of the civic body had been converted as an isolation and quarantine center at Chandivali, Powai. Its open area sunk and the retaining wall also collapsed on Friday. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported," said a civic official.

Civic officials said that the incident occurred because of excessive rain or maybe because of the construction work happening in the neighbourhood.
"Civic engineers are identifying the cause of the problem," said ward officer, Manish Valaniu.
In the second incident, a bridge that was constructed over Tansa Pipeline on the Marwah road, and connects to the Saki-Vihar road also witnessed a cave-in of the approach road portion. Immediately, vehicular movement was shut by the BMC and traffic police authorities. This bridge was not a part of the list of dilapidated bridges in the city but was due for repair.
"We are going to take up the reconstruction of this bridge and for now have shut it for vehicular movement as the approach road has caved in. The drawings for the reconstruction have been completed and we will soon initiate the process of repair," said a civic official.
