Mumbai recorded new Covid-19 cases close to the 1,000 mark for the second consecutive day on Tuesday and a Test Positivity Rate (TPR) below 5 per cent. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) report, the city saw 1,037 new cases with a TPR of 4.94 and 37 deaths.
After recording a jump in the TPR and new cases on May 23, Mumbai is seeing a significant drop in both.
After recording a below five per cent TPR last week, on May 23, the city's TPR was 6.13 per cent.
The city reported the highest number of cases - 11,163 on April 4 after which the declining trend started. There has been a steady fall in the TPR since May 5 when it was 10.96 per cent. Last week, the TPR was below seven per cent.

May 20 was the first time in the second wave that the TPR went below five per cent. On May 21, the TPR was 4.28 per cent.

On the other hand, on May 18, the city for the first time in the second wave registered less than 1,000 new Covid-19 cases. However, there was a significant rise in daily new cases and fatalities later in the week.
The doubling rate has continued to significantly improve and is now at 345 days.
Of the 37 deaths in Mumbai, 20 patients had co-morbidities, 23 patients were in the age group of 60 above while 11 deaths were of patients in the 40-60 age group.
The city's recovery rate has improved and was 94 per cent on Tuesday and 1,427 people recovered and got discharged.
Maharashtra saw a significant rise in new cases and Covid-19 fatalities on Tuesday. As per the state report, 24,136 new cases were reported along with 601 deaths.
The state's fatality rate has been seeing a steady rise and on Tuesday, it was 1.61 per cent, while 36,176 recovered and got discharged.
Currently, the state has 3.14 lakh active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), too, reported a rise in new cases and fatalities. The MMR reported 2,832 cases, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Palghar with 321 and Raigad with 544 reported the maximum new cases in MMR.
Thane had 137 new cases while Kalyan-Dombivili reported 104 new cases and Navi Mumbai reported 116 new cases.
MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 63 deaths, out of which Raigad reported 28 and Thane witnessed 11 deaths, the highest after Mumbai. Kalyan-Dombivili reported seven and Palghar and Vasai-Virar reported five deaths each.
