As per the India Meteorological Department, Delhi and Mumbai are likely to receive light rainfall today. The minimum and maximum temperatures in Mumbai are expected to be around 25 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Celsius.
Rains lashed many parts of the country on Monday and brought relief from sweltering temperatures. Southwest monsoon also progressed in some parts of Maharashtra including Alibaug and Malegaon but is yet to reach Mumbai. The south-west monsoon on Tuesday covered all of Maharashtra Tuesday and has further advanced into some parts of south Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Monsoon, which generally arrives in Mumbai on June 10 every year, is behind schedule by more than two weeks, the longest delay in the last 10 years.
According to the IMD forecast, a minimum of 2.5 mm rainfall must be recorded in 24 hours to declare the onset on monsoon.
2019 would have been the most delayed to witness the onset on rainfall in 45 years had it not rained on Monday. Monsoon had reached the city on 28th June in the year 1974.
