Rain is here to stay for at least the next three days, as per the forecast issued by the Indian Meteorology Department. The IMD issued a yellow alert in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar and many parts of the state, till Tuesday. After that, the weather is predicted to remain dry and the monsoon may withdraw from the state. Meanwhile, the current rainfall has crossed October's highest rainfall for the last decade.

For the past few days, rainfall post 4 pm has become routine in the city, hinting at retreating monsoons. On Friday, the monsoon withdrew from the north part of Maharashtra and now, there is a possibility that it may bid adieu to the rest of the state in the coming week. But before that, there are chances of thunderstorms and lightning. "The IMD issued a yellow alert for Mumbai on Sunday and Monday and there is a possibility of light rain on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the weather will remain dry," said an official from the IMD.
Meanwhile, the rainfall in October crossed the highest mark in the decade. Till Saturday morning, 216 mm of rainfall was recorded in October, compared to an average of 89 mm. The all-time highest rainfall was recorded in 1998 with 376 mm rain. This year, Santa Cruz observatory registered 113 mm of rainfall on October 8, which is the highest one-day rainfall in October in the last decade.
