The foot underbridge connects both the platforms on the harbour line
In what could be termed a first, Mumbai railways now has a rail foot underbridge (FUB). Due to the peculiar design of the elevated Sandhurst Road station, the railways have built a foot underbridge, seamlessly connecting under both the platforms on the harbour line. The old regular foot overbridge at the elevated station is under repairs from today.
"The design is such that passengers can easily move between platform three and four of the harbour line without having to leave the railway premises. It is at the north end of the station and has been proving helpful to regular commuters," a senior official said. The bridge that was opened earlier this year, is a connection under two rail lines and also has a staircase access wto the Wadibunder yard and road to P D'Mello Road exit.
"We have been using it to switch over from the CSMT-bound platform to the other side to change trains for the main line. The bridge is incorporated into the station and passes under the rail lines. This is the first time I have seen something like this," Ankush Warikar, a resident of Umerkhadi said.
"The bridge is illuminated and well lit. However, the railways should increase security along the bridge stretch as there are a lot of illegal slums and unwanted elements loitering near the bridge's side. The railways should improve security to make it safer," Asawari Gholap, a commuter said.

The over century old Sandhurst Road is a junction station of the main and harbour line and retains much of the original architecture. It is India's first elevated station commissioned in 1925. While the elevated station is used by the harbour line, the ground station is used by the main line trains.
