All public vaccination centres in the city will administer vaccine doses to only women on Friday, civic officials have said. The special session is an attempt to inoculate more women, they said.
Officials said women can directly walk into any of the centres run by the state government, BMC or the Covid care facilities across Mumbai's 227 corporator wards. "The first or second dose will also be given in this session and thus it will not be operational for the general public on Friday. Due to the fact that only women will be vaccinated, the prevailing online pre-registration for tomorrow has been closed," said BMC said in a press statement.
Since September 9, the BMC in coordination with a private institute has been administering shots to street vendors as part of a special drive. So far, 1,330 such people have been vaccinated. In similar measures, the corporation gave vaccine doses to 929 tribals and 99 auto drivers earlier this week. The focus is to reach the vaccine to the maximum population, said officials. Special sessions are being exclusively held for those who are due for their second doses.

"The civic body has also been doing home visits for those who are bedridden and has vaccinated 4,902 such beneficiaries. And similarly, as part of reaching out to the maximum population, a special Covid vaccination session reserved for women will be conducted on Friday, September 17, 2021, from 10.30 am to 6.30 pm," said a civic official.
