Residents, who’ve been experiencing sleepless nights, ask cops to intervene, book curfew violators

Bike racers seen on the Eastern Express Highway

Despite Covid-19 restrictions, bike racers are having free runs at night on the Eastern Express Highway. Residents of Godrej Colony, Kannamwar Nagar in Vikhroli, troubled by the sound of the roaring bikes, have even sent several complaints to the Mumbai police.

Sandeep Kumar, a resident, recently tweeted: "Every night, around 3 am there is a group of bikers who are speeding and creating a huge ruckus on the Eastern Express highway @vikhroli near Godrej Factory/Hospital disturbing elderly and children in the night. Sometimes the same gang is active in the afternoon, please help."

Another resident Surendra Mohite said, "The highway is just about 200 to 300 metres from our colony. There is a hospital on our premises, too. When common citizens are not allowed to venture out during the lockdown, how come these bikers are on the road? They should be booked under stringent sections."

When contacted, inspector Husan Jatkar, who is in-charge of the Vikhroli Traffic division, said, "I am aware about the complaints and inconvenience caused to residents. We have been patrolling the area every night, and will take action."
