Mumbai Police on Wednesday issued a prohibition order for the city. In the order, the police said that based on the information received from various sources, there was a possibility and grave threat to human life and property.
The prohibition orders issued were from December 19 and would remain in place till January 2. As per the order, the police have prohibited the gatherings of five or more people in the city during the said period.
A police official said, "it is a routine order which is reviewed and issued every 15 days depending on the circumstances."
The order, which was issued by DCP Vishal Thakur said that any kind of gathering, procession, demonstration, use of loudspeakers, etc, would be banned till January 2.
According to the order, restrictions would be on the following-
1) Prohibition of any assembly of five or more persons.
2) Any procession of any person.
2) Use of loudspeakers, musical instruments, any use of musical bands and bursting of firecrackers in any procession of any assembly.

The order further says that there would be an exemption for the following-
- Marriage ceremonies and matrimonial functions.
- Funeral meetings and processions en route to crematoriums/burial places.
- Statutory meeting of companies, clubs, co-operative societies, other societies and associations.
- Assemblies in or around cinema houses, theatres or any place of public amusement for the purposes of watching films, dramas or performances as the case may be.
- Assemblies in or around courts of law and offices of the Government and local bodies including Government or Semi-Governmental functions.
- Assemblies in and around schools, colleges and other educational institutions for academic activities.
- Assemblies in factories, shops and establishments for normal trade, business, etc.
(such other assemblies and the processions as may be permitted by Zonal Deputy Commissioners of Police, Brihanmumbai and their supervisory officers).
The order further says, withstanding the expiration of this order after the period here in above mentioned-
- Any investigation or legal proceeding may be instituted, continued or enforced.
- Any penalty, forfeiture of punishments incurred in respect of any contravention of this order may be imposed as if this order had not expired.
