Over 96,000 vaccine doses were administered in the city on Tuesday of which 77,808 jabs were delivered by private centres. The BMC has allowed beneficiaries above 45 years to walk in between 10 am and 3 pm on Wednesday. On Monday, 94,941 doses were given, including 71,523 by paid facilities. On Tuesday, the number increased even though civic-run centres administered comparatively fewer doses. More and more people are opting for paid shots as there is limited stock at BMC centres.
During the day, civic-run centres inoculated 17,945 people. While 5,910 were given to senior citizens above 60 years, 9,169 people between 45 to 59 years got the jabs at these vaccination points. Officials said 1,537 second doses were given to people in the 18-44 category. Even 165 students and 199 lactating mothers received vaccines at these centres.
Out of doses given by private centres, there were 55,521 beneficiaries between 18 and 44 years, 20,299 jabs were given to people between 45-59 years. During Wednesday's walk-in for the 45-plus age group, 80 per cent of the doses will be reserved for the first-timers.

Amid reports of various organisations and companies carrying out their in-house vaccination campaigns, the Napean Sea Road citizen's Forum has raised Rs 25 lakh to hold a vaccination drive for slum dwellers. The citizen group will get about 3,000 residents of JP Nagar and Shimla Nagar vaccinated with the help of BMC's D ward. The drive will start with the vaccination of 500 people on Wednesday with the help of S L Raheja Hospital, Mahim. "We hope to ensure that most if not all the slum-dwellers of our immediate locality have been vaccinated by the end of the drive," said the citizen group.
