A 50-year-old labourer was killed and two others were seriously injured after a portion of the roof of Sir JJ Hospital collapsed around 2.30 pm on Wednesday.
According to the police, five labourers were conducting repairs at one portion of the building when part of the roof came crashing on them. The three were rushed to the hospital, however, one of them, Moftiful Sheikh, a resident of Bandra West, succumbed to injuries. He is survived by his wife, three daughters, and a son. Senior doctors from Sir JJ Hospital said the other two workers - Mohammed Mister and Farazool Haq - have been admitted to the CCU ward and are under observation.
The JJ Marg police have registered a case against Vishal Decorators, who were undertaking the repair work, for deliberately ignoring safety measures and endangering the lives of the workers. Senior Inspector Subhash Borate said, "We have registered a case and booked the contractor under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code."
