One person died after a fire broke out in a room at Nutan Villa Building in Khar (West) on Thursday night, said BMC's disaster cell officials. The fire broke out around 7pm and was declared to be a Level 2 around 8pm.
The building, a seven-storey structure, was engulfed in smoke, said fire department officials.

As per the BMC's disaster cell, total three women, including a 10-year-old girl, were rescued from the room. One of them, identified as Hema Jagwani (40), was rushed to Hinduja Hospital and was later declared brought dead.

An official from disaster management unit of the civic body said, "As per the reports from the fire officials, a total of three residents were trapped. While two were rescued, one was rushed to Hinduja Hospital. When we enquired with the hospital's on-duty doctors, we were informed that one Hema Jagwani (40) was brought dead."
Eight fire engines, six jumbo tankers and two turntable ladders along with various other equipment were rushed to the spot.
