A dead body popping out of the ground led to much panic in Sakinaka, Andheri East, late on Sunday evening. While the body is yet to be identified, it appears that rising from the dead will bring the victim justice, as cops have filed a murder case.

Passers-by at Kharani Dongar noticed two legs sticking out from the ground - one of the legs was just bone. After the ensuing panic died down, the locals called the police, who dug out the body, which was semi-decomposed.
It was a dead giveaway
The Sakinaka police shifted the body to Rajawadi hospital for autopsy, but prima facie, it seems to be the body of a murder victim. What gave it away was the marks of physical assault on the body. "In the panchnama, the body has been found with visible marks suspected to be from a physical assault.

Also, the head had been crushed with a heavy object, making it hard to identify the deceased. The man is 30-35 years old," said an officer.
Slippery slope
The body had been buried in a deserted spot on a hill, but due to the monsoon, the soil began to slip from the makeshift grave.

The body had not been buried too deep, so when enough soil has washed away in the rain, the legs were exposed.
"We have registered a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (Causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the IPC against unidentified accused. The police are also scanning the missing persons' complaints to establish the identity of the man," added the officer.
