The Samta Nagar police have launched a manhunt for the parents of a newborn girl who fled after allegedly abandoning their child near the lift of the Sumo King SRA building at Ashok Nagar near Akurli Metro station in Kandivli East on Thursday afternoon.
According to sources, concerned locals called the police control room after hearing the baby's cries after which a team rushed to the spot. "We have registered the FIR under Section 317 (Exposure and abandonment of child under twelve years by parent or person having care of it) of the Indian Penal Code. We are checking CCTV footage of the building where the child was found and the surrounding areas. We came across a CCTV camera but it was, unfortunately, dysfunctional. The interrogation of every person in the building is underway," said an officer of the Samta Nagar police station.
