Maharashtra Minister and NCP leader Jitendra Awhad filed an FIR with Vartak Nagar police against an unidentified person for allegedly operating a fake social media account using his name and picture.

Speaking to Times of India, Awhad said the imposter must have taken his pictures from his social networking site and created a parody account. The imposter not only created a fake account on Awhad's name but also posted some derogatory comments.

"The minister complained to us saying a fake handle has been created using his name and photograph. Awhad felt the account was opened with the intention to defame him," a police officer said.

While investigations are underway, the Internet Protocol (IP) address used to create the said account will soon be traced, the officer added.
