Mumbai Metro services between Ghatkopar and Versova disrupted after technical glitch

There were major chaos on the Ghatkopar-Andheri-Versova Mumbai Metro Blue Line 1 on Wednesday evening as trains were stranded due to a technical snag and passengers were asked to vacate the stations as services were suspended.

Mumbai Metro team officials announced on social media that services were operational only between Airport Road and Ghatkopar and efforts were on resume full services at the earliest.

People reached the ticket counters for ticket refunds and there were long queues to exit the stations.

The chaos continued for about an hour and at 9:23pm, the Metro announced on social media that the technical error had been rectified and normal train operation between Versova and Ghatkopar have resumed.

During the chaos, commuters tweeted from trains that they were also stranded inside trains and that the trains were not moving for quite some time. "There is power failure at Chakla (JB Nagar Metro Station). No trains will be moving through and from Ghatkopar to Versova. There is no clarity on when they will resume! There is Chaos at ticket counter for refund," one of commuter said.

Metro services were being operational only from Airport Road to Ghatkopar. All the crowd had spilled on the roads below and autos and buses were jam packed, leading to chaos.

Commuter Nirav Mapuskar tweeted, "Such a pathetic management by Reliance Mumbai Metro. No announcement on platform, no intimation to the passengers inside, only one security personnel near platform and gates locked at exit."

When asked for a statement, Mumbai Metro spokesperson told confirmed to Mid-Day that there was some fault but did not elaborate. "Mumbai Metro One services have been delayed due to a technical fault. Efforts are on to resume services at the earliest. Appreciate your patience and support," a spokesperson said. The statement was updated later after services resumed.
