A man has accused his former live-in partner and her associate of extortion. It has been alleged that the woman and her associate since June 2022 had extorted approximately Rs 41 lakh in cash and jewellery from the man by threatening to implicate him in a rape case. A case of extortion has been filed against a woman and her associate at Colaba police station.
According to police sources, the 32-year-old man and the accused woman were both married when they became friends. Their friendship eventually turned into an illicit affair as they entered into a live-in relationship. However, their relationship soon soured, leading to a rift between them.
After their separation, the accused woman allegedly started threatening the man, saying she would implicate him in a rape case unless he paid her money. Between July 2022 and May 2024, the complainant gave approximately Rs 30 lakh in cash, 15 to 20 tolas of gold jewellery, a computer, a laptop, a monitor, and various other items to the woman and her partner.
The man, fearing being implicated in a rape case, was reportedly paying the woman Rs 22,000 every month for a couple of years. In all, the man had paid the woman Rs 41.18 lakh. However, the woman's demands did not cease, prompting the man to seek police assistance and file an FIR against the accused woman and her associate.

"We have registered an FIR under sections 384, 389, and 34 of the IPC and investigation is underway," said senior police inspector Pramod Bhovte of Colaba police station.
