Last week, The Mall was issued notices to rectify deficiencies found in fire safety norms
The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) has started the process of disconnecting the power and water supply to the shopping arcade The Mall in Malad West after a fire incident on Monday. The Fire Brigade has declared this mall unsafe. Last week, the MFB had issued a notice to The Mall to rectify deficiencies found in fire safety norms.
During the MFB visit, the team found that this mall does not have the required fire safety equipment. MFB issued a notice and ordered that all lapses be rectified in 30 days. "After the fire incident in the mall on Monday, we have declared the mall unsafe. We have also decided to take precautionary action against the mall management," said Chief Fire Officer, Santosh Sawant.
MFB conducted a special drive to inspect the fire safety of malls in the last week of May. During this drive, a team from the fire brigade visited 67 malls in the city. Out of these, MFB found that 17 malls do not follow proper fire safety norms. MFB had issued a notice to these malls under the âFire Act Notice' issued under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Protection Measures 2006, and ordered them to rectify all lapses within 30 days.
